WATERFRONT SITE - GOLA ISLAND, NORTHWEST DONEGAL
Gola is a 500-acre island just offshore from Gweedore, Northwest Donegal, about a 30-minute boat ride from Bunbeg Harbour (there is a ferry that runs regularly). Gola offers several beautiful sandy beaches, large secluded bays and some stunning cliff walks (and superb rock climbing!), plus views of the Donegal coast and wide-open Atlantic. While there is no full-time population on the island, there are about a dozen habitable summer properties, and the island is visited continuously. The nearest airport is Donegal International (or Carrickfinn) a 15-minute drive from Bunbeg, and served daily from Dublin and regularly from Glasgow.PRICE: €35,000
The site itself is roughly a one-half-acre plot, directly fronting a white-sand beach and beside the main, protected pier for Gola Island. There is a perfect anchorage (two-tonne mooring included) in the bay just there. Views are towards Errigal mountain, mainland East, with clear aspect to all other points of the compass. This site has full planning permission.(Plans are available at the office to view)
Water and power have already been connected to the site. The house is an
Open-plan, two-bedroom, 1-1/2 story building in the shape of an L, very commiserate with historic-type vernacular (see attachment). We have one quote
from a local timber-frame company, which can erect the basic structure for?
30,000Euro; after that a price /builder would be required to finish the external structure, (single block or natural stone depending on budget) along with the roofing and window details.
Building is reasonably easy on Gola as the Arranmore Ferry runs a car ferry in and out to Gola when building materials, concrete, etc. are required. Being right by the pier, transport to the site is minimal.
We have a full set of plans available to view at the office.
